OAKLAND -- A Pittsburg man already on probation for gun convictions has been charged with murder in a fatal shooting last month in North Oakland, authorities said Wednesday.

Westley Young, 29, is charged in the death of Aaron Marks, 19, of Oakland, who was fatally shot Nov. 24 in the 5900 block of San Pablo Avenue. Police said Young has denied being involved in the killing.

Officer Jason Andersen said the two men were acquainted and the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute. He would not elaborate.

Andersen said soon after the shooting police got an anonymous tip that Young was the suspected shooter. Further investigation developed enough evidence, including video surveillance tapes and witnesses, to arrest and charge Young. He was arrested Dec. 19 as he drove away from his Pittsburg home.

Authorities confirmed that Young was placed on three years probation in April after being convicted in Contra Costa County for carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm, both misdemeanors which he was arrested for in Pittsburg in 2010.
