SAN PABLO -- Police in San Pablo and Richmond will conduct sobriety checkpoints Saturday.

San Pablo police will conduct a checkpoint on San Pablo Avenue from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday. Richmond police will have a checkpoint in the city's Coronado neighborhood from 6 p.m. to midnight at undisclosed intersections.

"Officers will focus on impaired drivers and ensure motorists are properly licensed in an effort to reduce the number of DUI collisions and to improve overall traffic safety," the San Pablo Police Department said in a news release.

The San Pablo checkpoint is funded by grants from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the California Office of Traffic Safety and SafeTREC. Richmond's checkpoints in recent months have been funded through a grant from the California Department of Traffic Safety.
