SAN PABLO -- Three drivers were arrested and 17 others were cited for a variety of violations during a Dec. 29 DUI checkpoint last week, San Pablo police announced Wednesday.

"One of our goals is to make the streets safer for motorists by getting drunk drivers off the road" Lt. Gene Alameda of the Traffic Division said in a news release. "Each checkpoint gets us a little closer to that goal."

The San Pablo Police Department's DUI check program is financed by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety using National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds.
