PLEASANTON -- Candidates who plan to run for an open seat on the Pleasanton City Council can begin filing their paperwork Monday.
A special election to fill the vacancy left when Jerry Thorne was elected mayor will be conducted May 7 by mail-in ballot only. The filing period for all candidates ends Feb. 15.
One hopeful, planning commissioner Kathy Narum, already has announced her intention to campaign. Narum has been involved in public service in Pleasanton since 1996, and has served the past five years on the Planning Commission. She previously sat on the city's Parks and Recreation Commission and is a member of the East Pleasanton Specific Plan Task Force.
"I have a commitment to improve the city and to maintain the quality of life the city has," Narum said.
She served as treasurer for Thorne's campaign for mayor. Narum's fellow planning commissioner Jennifer Pearce will co-manage the campaign along with Nancy Allen.
