Emmanuel Ogunleye was named this week to fill a vacancy on the Los Medanos Community Healthcare District.
Ogunleye, a Pittsburg resident, is president of Disability Evaluation Services and has a seat on Pittsburg's community advisory board.
Board members selected Ogunleye from a field of five candidates who applied to fill the vacancy that resulted from the death last September of incumbent Darnell Turner, a well-known community activist. It was too late to take Turner's name off the ballot and voters re-elected him in the November, leaving board members with the choice of filling the seat either through an appointment process or holding a special election. Ogunleye will attend his first board meeting on Monday.
The district, which is funded by a 1 percent property tax, distributes community grants to support health and wellness programs targeted to low-income residents in Pittsburg, Bay Point, Clayton, Clyde and unincorporated Antioch.
