The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors issued a resolution last December declaring that 2013 is the Year of the Library, in honor of the Contra Costa County Library's 100th Anniversary.

Library staff has done an amazing job on our website celebrating the anniversary. There are photos of libraries throughout the last century, library directors and staff in years past, a bookmobile from 1956, and timelines for all 26 community libraries.

Libraries throughout the county will be celebrating all year with special events. In East County, the Pittsburg Library will kick things off Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Pittsburg Historical Museum. The East Bay Regional Park District will have a children's activity courtesy of Black Diamond Mines, and the Museum will offer a tour of historical downtown Pittsburg. The Pittsburg Historical Museum address is 515 Railroad Ave.

Far East Contra Costa County will host a 100th Anniversary Celebration at the Brentwood Community Center on Wednesday, March 13, at 5 p.m. More details on "Wayback Wednesday" in next month's column. Details about all of the 100th Anniversary news and events can be found at http://guides.ccclib.org/100thbirthday.
