Big week for Wolves
The San Ramon Valley High boys basketball team had big wins against California, 63-59, on Jan . 29 and Foothill, 69-52, on Feb. 1. The Wolves were led by junior guard Jerry Karczewski, who had 24 points in each game. Other key contributors against California were sophomore guard Keith Smith (11 points) and seniors Justin Bangay (eight points) and Scott Fisher (10 points). Grixti lifts Grizzlies
Nathan Grixti scored in the 34th minute to give the California High boys soccer team a 1-0 win over Amador Valley on Jan. 31 and improve to 16-4-2 overall and 7-4-2 in the EBAL.-- Matt Schwab
Dons become eligible for NCS playoffs
Lexi Nicholas posted two shutouts in critical East Bay Athletic League matches, helping the Amador Valley High girls soccer team top Monte Vista 1-0 on Jan. 29 and California 1-0 on Jan. 31. The victories helped Amador Valley, which had a record of 11-6-2 entering this week, become eligible for the North Coast Section Division I playoffs. Nicholas had nine saves against Monte Vista and seven against the Grizzlies. Nicholas stopped two breakaways against the Mustangs and four against California. -- Matt Schwab
