Walnut Acres Children's Theatre's "Aladdin Jr.," this year's fifth-grade musical, will have its last weekend of shows Friday and Saturday in the multiuse room at Walnut Acres Elementary School, 180 Cerezo Drive in Walnut Creek.
Directors Judy Ryken, Lee Oller and Joni Cote bring to life the faraway land of Agrabah and the story of a young street urchin and a princess, who find that dreams can come true though perseverance, and with the help of some good old-fashioned magic.
Two casts have been performing "Aladdin, Jr." -- the "London cast," giving its final performance Saturday, March 2 at 2 p.m.; and the "New York cast," wit remaining Tickets are $8 at the door for these final performances; seating is assigned. Las Lomas High School has several musical events coming up, including a performance tonight (Feb. 28) by the school's Wind Ensemble, along with guests the Walnut Creek Intermediate Symphonic Band, starting at 7 p.m. at the Las Lomas Theatre, 1460 S. Main St.

A team of middle school students from Dorris-Eaton School in Walnut Creek placed second at regional competition of the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science's National Science Bowl Saturday, Feb. 23 at Las Positas College in Livermore.
The Office of Science began this competition to interest today's youth in pursuing careers in science and math.
