The Clayton Valley Charter High baseball team has some big wins this season, but it might be hard to find a win bigger than Saturday's 8-2 victory over Buchanan-Clovis at the O.co Coliseum.

Clayton Valley Charter used strong pitching and timely hits to defeat the Bears at the Dave Stewart High School Baseball Showdown.

Austin Cannedy threw five strong innings in relief of starter Ryan Snyder, allowing just one run and three hits with six strikeouts on the day.

"This was a big win for us to get ready for the playoffs," Cannedy said. "I think we came in a little intimidated at first playing on this field but we settled in."

Clayton Valley (17-3) got a huge game from Josh Ballard, who went 2 for 3, including a double and triple to drive in four.

Buchanan (23-4-1) scored in the first when Jeremy Vollberg scored on a two-out throwing error. Clayton Valley also took advantage of a sloppy Buchanan defense in their home half of the first when Snyder and

Garrett Nelson scored on an error.

The Eagles added four more runs in the third when Eddie Juarez doubled home Snyder before Ballard followed with a two-run double to extend the Clayton Valley lead to 6-1.

Ballard added a triple in the fifth to score Nelson and Juarez. Nelson was 3 for 4 with three runs scored in the game while Juarez went 2 for 3.

Trenton Kemp hit a 357-foot home run in the fifth for the Bears.
