Cal contingent on U.S. swim team
The United States swimming team selected for the FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain, includes a large contingent with Cal ties, including graduate Natalie Coughlin and incoming freshman Missy Franklin, pictured. The event kicked off on July 28 when Coughlin and Franklin helped the U.S. women to a gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle relay. Dana Vollmer won a bronze in the 100 butterfly during the second day of competition. Cal alumna Lauren Boyle, swimming for New Zealand, earned a bronze medal in the 400 freestyle. On the boys side, Cal alums Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin were part of the Americans' 400 freestyle relay team that took silver. Other Cal swimmers are scheduled to compete later in the event.
