ALAMEDA -- The Kiwanis Club of Alameda awarded scholarships to five high school graduates from local schools.
Victor Chu from Encinal High received the John Hanson four-year scholarship; he will attend Wesleyan University. Kiwanis Foundation four-year scholarships were awarded to Scarlett Wu and Jeffrey Lee, both of Alameda High; Wu will attend University of California Berkeley, and Lee is headed to University of California at San Diego.
The Mark and Lois Hanna Scholarship one-time award went to Brandon Do, Encinal High, who will be attending San Jose State University. Melissa Yip, Alameda High and a current Key Club member, received Kiwanis' Key Club four-year scholarship; she will attend Mt. St. Mary's College.
Key Club -- the world's largest service organization for high school students -- is part of Kiwanis International's Service Leadership Program providing leadership opportunities for several types of youth and special needs members.
The Alameda Club meets weekly at noon on Wednesdays at Elks Lodge, 2255 Santa Clara Ave. Guests are always welcome for the program and no host lunch. Call 510-523-1235 for information.
