Two men each face a burglary charge after they broke into a building in the city's West End to steal copper, police said.
One man, who is 20, was also found in possession of suspected methamphetamine when they were arrested about 6:50 a.m. Sunday in the 3000 block of Main Street, police said. The second man arrested is age 30. Thieves routinely steal copper pipes and other items made of the metal to sell as recycling and as scrap, police said.
WEDNESDAY, AUG. 14 DRUG POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 59, on suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics just before 11 p.m. at Chestnut Street and Lincoln Avenue. Officers initially contacted the man, who was also allegedly in possession of methamphetamine, as a suspicious person.
THURSDAY, AUG. 15 DRUG PARAPHERNALIA -- A 31-year-old man was arrested following a traffic stop just before 3 p.m. in the 1800 block of Constitution Way after he was allegedly found with drug paraphernalia. Police said they found the paraphernalia after learning the man, who was initially pulled over for expired registration, was on probation and could be searched. He admitted owning the paraphernalia and was released at the scene with a citation, police said. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 4:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of Ballena Boulevard, the same block where police found a vehicle reported stolen about 6:20 p.m. A vehicle was also reported stolen about 7:05 p.m. in the 700 block of Central Avenue. BURGLARY -- Jewelry and a laptop were reported stolen about 6:45 p.m. during a residential burglary in the 2600 block of Bayview Drive.
FRIDAY, AUG. 16 BURGLARY -- A residential burglary was reported about 1:05 a.m. at an apartment in the 400 block of Central Avenue.
SATURDAY, AUG. 17 DRUG POSSESSION -- Officers investigating a report of a suspicious person in the 1800 block of Alameda Avenue arrested a 27-year-old man about 5:30 p.m. An officer found him in possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine after learning he was on probation and could be searched, police said. IDENTITY THEFT -- Someone used the personal information of a resident of the 6300 block of Albany Street to obtain phone service in what police are investigating as identity theft. The case was reported about 6:30 p.m. PAROLE VIOLATION -- Police arrested a man, 40, on suspicion of violating his probation and possessing drug paraphernalia in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Park Street. The arrest occurred about 10:05 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the area to investigate a disturbance. The man was out past his curfew set as a condition of his probation, police said.
SUNDAY, AUG. 18 PUBLIC INTOXICATION -- Police arrested a man, 23, at a convalescent hospital on Willow Street, where officers said he wandered into a room while drunk and fell asleep. It happened just before 6 a.m. BURGLARY -- A residential burglary was reported just after 9 p.m. in the 1000 block of Broadway.
MONDAY, AUG. 19 POSSESSION OF BURGLARY TOOLS -- A man who officers investigated as a suspicious person because he was sleeping in a vehicle was arrested after a background check revealed that he was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The 28-year-old man was also found in possession of burglary tools and was under the influence of an opiate before he was arrested about 3:25 a.m. in the 1800 block of Clement Avenue, police said. He was also accused of violating his probation. DRUG POSSESSION -- Police arrested two men just before 7 a.m. on Coast Guard Island, where guards initially detained them at a security checkpoint as they attempted to drive into the base. The driver, 20, was never issued a driver's license, and drug paraphernalia was found in his backpack, police said. His 19-year-old passenger was also arrested after methamphetamine was allegedly found in the vehicle. BURGLARY -- Someone stole tools from a trailer at a construction site in what police have classified as a burglary. The theft, which was reported about 9:05 a.m., occurred in the 400 block of Tideway Drive. DRUG POSSESSION -- Police arrested a man, 25, at Washington Park on Westline Drive about 10:45 a.m. after officers allegedly found him in possession of suspected methamphetamine. The man was searched after a background check revealed that he was on probation.
