Albany police log: Unlocked cars make easy burglary targets; large amount of baby formula taken from Target store

MONDAY, Aug. 19 BREAK-IN -- A resident on Cornell Avenue reported that someone had attempted to break into his garage through the side door overnight. Nothing appeared to have been taken. THEFT -- Over the weekend a catalytic converter was stolen off a car on Pierce Street. THEFT -- Items were stolen overnight from a car on Ordway Street. The owner was uncertain if the car had been locked or unlocked. TOW -- At 5 p.m. officers towed a car parked on Castro Street for more than four days.
TUESDAY, Aug. 20 WARRANT -- At 1:20 a.m. officers arrested a transient man in the south end of the Target parking lot for an outstanding warrant. AUTO BREAK-IN -- A car on Neilson Street was burgled overnight. FIRE CALL -- Albany firefighters responded to a call of smoke in the second floor stairwell of RMJ Services on San Pablo Avenue at 10:30 p.m.
WEDNESDAY, Aug. 21 WARRANT -- Officers arrested a San Pablo man near Eastshore and Buchanan Street for an outstanding warrant at 12:30 a.m. NO LICENSE -- At 2 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle on Buchanan Street near Interstate 80 for a vehicle code violation. They arrested a Downey man for suspicion of driving without a license and lying to an officer. BREAK-IN -- The window of a car on Brighton Avenue was smashed overnight to steal property. THEFT -- At about 9 p.m. security at Target on the 1000 block of Eastshore reported that two women and a man stole about $1,000 in baby formula. They were able to provide a description of the getaway vehicle and officers are investigating.
THURSDAY, Aug. 22 DUMPING -- The owner of Adhesive Products on Cleveland Avenue called at 9 a.m. to report that vandals had dumped several propane canisters in the shipping bay of the business during the night. There were no witnesses.
-- Kristina Osborn THEFT -- At 3 p.m. officers received a report of a stolen necklace valued at $5,770 from Key Route Boulevard.
FRIDAY, Aug. 23 DUI -- Shortly after midnight officers stopped a vehicle on Buchanan Street near I-80 for a vehicle code violation. They arrested a Richmond woman for suspicion of DUI. THEFT -- At 3 a.m. officers received a call from Safeway on Solano Avenue about a woman who came into the store with an empty bag and left with it full. They said this is the second time she has done this. Officers arrested a San Pablo woman for suspicion of burglary and possession of burglary tools. THEFT -- Change was stolen overnight from an unlocked car parked in a driveway on Santa Fe Avenue. ALTERCATION -- At 3 p.m. an employee at Ampri Investments on Jackson Street reported that when he knocked on his neighbor's door and asked her to move her car that was blocking his driveway, she started yelling and cursing. He tried to get her to talk without screaming, but she refused and kept screaming. He just wanted to report the incident. WARRANT -- An Oakland woman came to the police station at 5:30 p.m. to turn herself in for an outstanding no-bail warrant out of Union City. Officers arrested the woman. AUTO THEFT -- Between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. a car was stolen from the 1500 block of Solano Avenue. DUI -- Officers stopped a vehicle on Washington Avenue near Adams Street at 10:30 p.m. for a vehicle code violation and arrested a Martinez man for suspicion of DUI.
SATURDAY, Aug. 24 DUI -- At 12:30 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle in the 800 block of Key Route Boulevard for a vehicle code violation and arrested an Albany man for suspicion of two counts of DUI. DRUG POSSESSION -- At about 1:30 a.m. officers contacted a person riding a bicycle on Washington Avenue who was acting suspiciously. They arrested the Richmond man for suspicion of drug possession and resisting arrest. DUI -- Officers arrested a Richmond man in the 400 block of San Pablo Avenue at 2 a.m. for suspicion of DUI.
SUNDAY, Aug. 25 DUI -- Officers stopped a vehicle on I-80 near Buchanan Street at 2 a.m. for a vehicle code violation and arrested a San Francisco man for suspicion of DUI. DISTURBANCE -- At 2:30 a.m. officers warned to a group of noisy young adults walking up Solano Avenue. They agreed to be quieter. THEFT -- A Talbot Avenue resident reported that items were stolen overnight from a car on the street that may have been unlocked. The caller said that this had happened three or four times before. THEFT -- Items were taken from an unlocked car overnight on Evelyn Avenue. Another vehicle on Evelyn was also burgled. NO LICENSE -- At 11 p.m. officers stopped a vehicle on San Pablo Avenue near Washington Avenue for a vehicle code violation and an Oakland man for suspicion of drug possession and for driving with a suspended license.
MONDAY, Aug. 26 DUI -- Officers stopped a vehicle at the Buchanan Street interchange just after midnight for a vehicle code violation and arrested a Berkeley woman for suspicion of DUI.
