Defense delivers in Amador romp

  • The Amador Valley football team remained unbeaten with a 38-0 rout of Skyline on Sept. 13. The Dons (3-0) have a bye this week before opening East Bay Athletic League play at home against Monte Vista. Michael White ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns. The Dons limited Skyline (0-2) to 59 yards of total offense.

    Foothill defense rolls another six-spot

  • The Foothill football team (3-0) limited its third straight opponent to only six points in a 31-6 win over visiting Las Lomas. Kyle Kearns passed for 316 yards, and Isaiah Langley had eight receptions for 152 yards. He scored on a 5-yard run and a 13-yard pass from Kearns. Versatile Jamirr Holland had an 18-yard touchdown run, and Matt Luey powered in for a 1-yard run. The Falcons will host Vintage-Napa (2-1) on Sept. 20. The Crushers have won back-to-back games over Woodland 20-7 and Vallejo 49-42.

    Livermore water polo sizzles in tourney

  • The Livermore girls water polo team took second place at the Contra Costa Invitational on Sept. 14, falling 6-5 to Deer Valley in the championship match.

    Foothill girls water polo takes second

  • Jenni Beadle concluded a strong tournament with five goals in the Foothill girls water polo team's 8-1 win over Presentation-San Jose on Sept. 14 in the third-place game of the Sierra Shootout. Beadle scored 28 goals overall in helping the Falcons to a 4-1 mark in the event, also including wins over Napa, Modesto and Rocklin, and a loss to Clovis North in the semifinals.

    California clobbers Castro Valley

  • The California High football team outscored Castro Valley by 15 points in the second half to earn a 48-31 win on Sept. 13. Blake Bierwith, a 6-foot, 220-pound senior, ran for 209 yards on 23 carries and scored five touchdowns, including three in a row during the second-half surge. Bierwith has 559 yards and 10 touchdowns total in three games, averaging 186.3 yards a game, as the Grizzlies are off to a 2-1 start.

    Dougherty Valley showing promise

  • The Dougherty Valley football team held off American 14-12 on Sept. 13 to improve to 2-1 for the first time since 2010. Jacob Padrid had a 32-yard touchdown return on a fumble recovery and Julian Williams had a 5-yard touchdown run for the Wildcats. Dougherty Valley will host Antioch (1-2) on Sept. 20 to conclude nonleague play. The Wildcats open Diablo Foothill Athletic League play at rival Dublin on Oct. 4.

  • Vintage-Napa at Foothill, football, Sept. 20, 7 p.m. -- The high-fying Falcons, off to their best start since 2010, will host the explosive Crushers who are riding a two-game winning streak.

  • Folsom at San Ramon Valley, football, Sept. 20, 7 p.m. -- The Wolves (1-1) will try to rebound from a 21-18 loss against James Logan when they face powerful Folsom (3-0), which has amassed 142 points (47.3 ppg) in its first three games. Folsom beat the Wolves 31-20 in 2012.

  • Jenni Beadle, Foothill girls water polo -- Beadle scored 28 goals in helping the Falcons to a 4-1 mark in the Sierra Shootout, which included wins over Presentation, Napa, Modesto and Rocklin, and a loss to Clovis North in the semifinals.

  • Isaiah Langley, Foothill football -- Langley had eight catches for 152 yards and a touchdown against Las Lomas.

  • Vince Volpatti, Valley Christian football -- Volpatti had 144 yards rushing and three touchdowns in the Vikings' 39-0 rout of Kennedy-Richmond on Sept. 14. Volpatti had touchdown runs of 23 and 51 yards and 56-yard punt return for a score.

  • John Kaiser, Monte Vista football -- Kaiser had three receptions for 102 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown reception from Nikta Zamora, in a 49-29 loss to Pittsburg on Sept. 13.
