A Tri-Valley-based nonprofit group is asking the public to contribute to a book drive for children in need.
The Assistance League of Amador Valley, which does charity work in Pleasanton, San Ramon, Dublin and Livermore, is holding the book donation drive until late October.
Donors can drop off new children's books at two downtown Pleasanton locations: Towne Center Books, 555 Main St.; and Heritage Bank, 300 Main St. The drive will end on Make a Difference Day, Oct. 26, when donated books will be presented to local children at Kohl's, 2900 Las Positas Road in Livermore.
"This year, we decided we would get together for Make a Difference Day and give children a book to help brighten their lives," said Carolyn Ainsworth, a local Assistance League member.
The nonprofit group also is sponsoring Operation School Bell, an annual charity drive held throughout October, in which new clothing and shoes are provided to about 380 students in need, Ainsworth said.
The Assistance League of Amador Valley, an all-volunteer group of nearly 90 members, is one of its national organization's 120 chapters. For details visit www.amadorvalley.assistanceleague.org or call 925-461-6401.
