Albany police log: Thieves steal iPads from Ocean View School; wallet stolen in 2007 resurfaces

MONDAY, Sept. 9 AUTO THEFT -- A car was stolen from Buchanan Street overnight. WILDLIFE -- At about 11:30 a.m. a caller reported seeing a deer with large antlers run across Marin Avenue near Curtis Street almost causing an accident with a vehicle. TOW -- Officers towed a vehicle blocking a driveway on Adams Street at 8 p.m. ASSISTANCE -- At 9 p.m. paramedics took a man on Solano Avenue to the hospital after a relative called and said he was on the ground and might need medical attention.
TUESDAY, Sept. 10 STOLEN PROPERTY -- At 1 a.m. officers investigated a person acting suspiciously near Petsmart in the 1000 block of Eastshore and arrested a 33-year-old San Francisco woman for suspicion of possession of stolen property. THEFT -- Officers received a call from security at Target in the 1000 block of Eastshore at 8:30 a.m. reporting a person in the store with a box cutter trying to walk out with a jacket. Officers arrested a 42-year-old Richmond man for suspicion of burglary. MULTIPLE CHARGES -- At 1:30 p.m. officers stopped a bicycle rider near Pomona Avenue and Dartmouth Street for a traffic violation and arrested a 64-year-old Richmond man for suspicion of burglary, repeated offenses and a probation violation.
WEDNESDAY, Sept. 11 BREAK-IN -- Thieves entered a classroom at Ocean View School overnight and stole all of the iPads. The school secretary found the door open when she arrived in the morning. The theft is under investigation. AUTO BREAK-IN -- Belongings were reported stolen overnight from a car on Key Route Boulevard. A short time later a beige satchel connected to the break-in was found on Solano Avenue near Evelyn Avenue. TOWING -- Officers towed a vehicle blocking a driveway on Stannage Avenue at 1 p.m. when the resident complained. WALLET FOUND -- A Key Route Boulevard resident reported he just received a call from a man in Santa Clara County who said he found the wallet in his car. The caller said the wallet, with credit cards and social security information, had been stolen in Berkeley in 2007. The finder was refusing to send the wallet back because he didn't want to be implicated in the original theft. The man was able to provide the caller's name and phone number and officers will investigate. TOW -- Officers towed a vehicle that had been parked on Cornell Avenue for more than a month and had a parking ticket and 72-hour notice from Aug. 29. TOW -- At 7 p.m. officers towed a car blocking a driveway on Adams Street and preventing the resident from leaving.
THURSDAY, Sept. 12 THEFT -- Belongings were stolen overnight from a vehicle on Jackson Street. AUTO BREAK-IN -- At 7:30 p.m. officers received a report that the window had been smashed on a car at the end of Buchanan Street and property had been stolen. AUTO BREAK-IN -- At 8 p.m. a caller reported seeing a man smash the window of a white Toyota Corolla on Buchanan Street near Cerrito Street and steal items from inside. The thief was last seen heading west toward the freeway.
FRIDAY, Sept. 13 THEFT -- At 3 p.m. a Tulare Street resident reported the theft of about 20 plants from his front yard and porch. He requested officers to provide an extra patrol near his home. BURGLARY -- Officers arrested a 32-year-old Berkeley woman at Target on the 1000 block of Eastshore for suspicion of burglary at 3:30 p.m. DISTURBANCE -- At 4:30 p.m. officers responded to the AM/PM minimart in the 1000 block of San Pablo Avenue when an employee reported an intoxicated person was bothering customers. Officers arrested a 46-year-old transient man for suspicion of threatening an officers and disorderly conduct. INJURY ACCIDENT -- Officers and paramedics responded to several calls about a vehicle accident near Washington and Ramona avenues about 6:30 p.m. Paramedics took injured persons to the hospital.
SATURDAY, Sept. 14 AUTO THEFT -- A car was stolen on Brighton Avenue. BIKE STOLEN -- A silver men's Schwinn 18-speed bicycle was stolen overnight from an open garage of an apartment complex on Evelyn Avenue. AUTO BREAK-INS -- Thieves smashed the window of cars on Masonic Avenue and Adams Street and stole items. DRUGS -- At 10 p.m. officers contacted a person acting suspiciously in the 1100 block of Solano Avenue and arrested a 32-year-old Oakland man for suspicion of drug possession and a probation violation. DISTURBANCE -- Shortly before midnight officers noticed a person acting suspiciously in the 900 block of Kains Avenue and arrested a 31-year-old Winters woman for suspicion of disorderly conduct.
SUNDAY, Sept. 15 BREAK-IN -- A caller reported that sometime the previous day thieves broke into a rear cottage on San Carlos Street and stole items and money from inside. AUTO BREAK-IN -- The stereo was stolen from a car in the parking lot at Golden Gate Fields during the day.
