ALAMEDA -- Members of Alameda Firefighters Local 689 would like Island residents to get dressed up for a good reason -- local charities. The group is hosting a black-tie event Sept. 28 at Alameda Point. Black ties are optional and all are invited.
"We did a crab feed earlier in the year with the teachers' union to benefit Alameda Point Collaborative and thought about what else we could do to help the community and raise funds," said Juan Medrano, a public information officer for the firefighters, speaking on behalf of Local 689.
"This event should allow us to donate to a large number of groups," Medrano said, including Meals on Wheels, Alameda Family Services, the Boys & Girls Club of Alameda and local youth sports teams.
"This will be a classy event with nice food, wine from Rock Wall and plenty of dancing," he said.
In addition, there will be both a live and silent auction, as well as a raffle. Some of the top raffle prizes are two diamond pendants from Barons Jewelers and an iPad Mini.
The live auction features a night in the Golden State Warriors luxury box (which seats 20), a salt water fishing trip for two, a duck hunting trip to a private ranch, a guided wild pig hunting trip, a fireboat tour of San Francisco Bay for four and a three-night stay in a cabin in Yosemite.
and a ride-along with a SWAT team member.
