College Prep wins BCL-East showdown Behind 30 assists from Claudia Chung and 10 kills from Jane Buckley, the College Prep girls volleyball team defeated Head-Royce 25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22 in a Bay Counties League-East showdown on Sept. 17. College Prep, which improved to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in league play with the victory, trailed 8-0 in the first set and 19-15 in the fourth, but rallied to win both sets. Head-Royce, the defending league champions, fell to 6-4 overall and 1-1 with the loss. Natasha Skov had an impressive 25 kills in the match for the Jayhawks.

Calhoun to play in All-American Bowl El Cerrito High outside linebacker D.J. Calhoun has been selected to play in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 4, 2014 in the Alamodome in San Antonio. Calhoun, who has a four-star rating by scout.com, has committed to USC.
Alameda defeats Castro Valley The Alameda High girls tennis team swept all three doubles matches and also won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches in a 5-2 victory over Castro Valley on Sept. 19 in a West Alameda County Conference match. In the No. 1 doubles match, Sarah Fong and Mackenzie Majors won 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 in one of four Hornets victories that required three sets. Alameda's Ebony Quails won the No. 1 singles match 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 and teammate Allison SooHoo was victorious in the No. 2 singles match 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Savannah Fisher, St. Joseph Notre Dame girls tennis -- Fisher defeated Salesian's Uyen Tu 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match of a 7-0 Pilots victory on Sept. 17 in a Tri-County Athletic League match. Megan Fong, Albany girls golf -- Fong was the medalist with a score of 48 at the Tilden Park Golf Course in the Cougars' 300-307 victory over Hercules on Sept. 1 in a TCAL match. Elijah Hernandez, Alameda football -- The junior quarterback rushed for a game-high 190 yards on 15 carries and passed for 114 yards in a 44-14 loss to Miramonte on Sept. 20. He scored on a 6-yard run and passed for a 12-yard touchdown. Adarius Pickett, El Cerrito football -- Pickett, who has committed to UCLA, scored touchdowns on an 11-yard run and a 97-yard kickoff return in the Gauchos' 42-27 nonleague loss to Campolindo on Sept. 20.
