HAYWARD -- Practical tips to prepare for an earthquake or other natural disaster will be given out at a free workshop Saturday.
Firefighters will show how to turn off utilities and operate a fire extinguisher. They will talk about shelter in place, what to pack in advance for both residents and pets, and how much water to store and how.
Other topics will include an overview of emergency resources and the fire department's Community Emergency Response Team course.
The two-hour session begins at 11 a.m. at the Hayward Main Library, 835 C St. No registration is required.
