Keilan Benjamin threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns to lead the visiting El Cerrito High football team to a 40-14 Tri-County Athletic League-Rock Division win over host Salesian on Oct. 5.
The Gauchos travel to face the Eagles on Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m.
The Gauchos (4-2, 2-0 TCAL-Rock) lost a fumble on their first possession and Salesian (3-3, 0-2) then cashed it in when Charles Hillary busted loose for a 43-yard touchdown run. El Cerrito didn't panic -- it marched right back down the field on a four-play, 53-yard drive to tie the score on a 10-yard pass from Benjamin to Jalen Harvey.
That started a run of 34 consecutive points for the Gauchos as they took control of the game. Benjamin also connected on a 58-yard touchdown pass to twin brother Keith and a 51-yard touchdown pass to Harvey.
St. Mary's 63, Berean Christian 13: On a sunny Oct. 5 afternoon, the host Panthers started hot and didn't cool down, beating the Eagles in a TCAL-Rock Division game to extend its win streak to four games. Berean Christian (2-4, 0-2 TCAL-Rock) has dropped three straight.
After scoring the first 28 points of the game in the first quarter, St. Mary's opened up a 49-7 lead before the half. The third quarter started with a running clock and a 91-yard kickoff return by the Panthers.
Senior running back Lorenzo Logwood led the way for St. Mary's, rushing seven times for 142 yards and four touchdowns, plus a receiving touchdown that came from a shovel pass off a broken play that he took for 31 yards.
"He's a great football player. He's our bell cow," St. Mary's head coach Keith Minor said after the game. "We go as he goes."
The Eagles struggled to keep pressure off senior quarterback Jax Cuddihy, who finished with 117 yards and a touchdown on 10 of 17 passing.
St. Mary's continues league play against Valley Christian at Chabot College on October 11 at 7 p.m.
