Valley Christian marches on

  • Valley Christian's football team routed Berean Christian 47-14 on Oct. 25 for the Vikings' third straight victory in the Tri-County Athletic League-Rock Division. The Vikings (5-3, 3-1) will look to keep rolling against Pinole Valley (2-6, 2-2) at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1 at Chabot College. Quarterback Theman Taylor III led the Vikings with 147 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.

    Foothill moves into tie for second place

  • Foothill rallied for a 31-21 win over Granada on Oct. 25 to set up a showdown on Nov. 1 against host San Ramon Valley, which will pit teams tied for second place in the EBAL. Matt Luey and Isaiah Langley scored touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Falcons (7-1, 3-1) overcame a 17-14 deficit. Kyle Kearns passed for 280 yards for Foothill, including eight completions for 138 yards to Ryan Anderson. Granada's Casey Soltis had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter, after Jamirr Holland gave the Falcons the lead with an 8-yard scoring run.

    California QB, defense deliver big win

  • The California High football team, led by quarterback Cameron Owen and an inspired defense, rallied from a 14-7 deficit to beat San Ramon Valley 35-21 on Oct. 25 in an East Bay Athletic League first-place showdown. The Grizzlies can clinch an outright championship with a win at Livermore on Nov. 1.

    Athenian boys soccer rolls over Bentley

  • Seniors Garrett Furlong and Alex Kim each had two goals as the Athenian boys soccer team trounced Bentley 6-0 in a Bay Counties League-East match on Oct. 24. Tom Notcovich and Ryan Ball added goals for the Owls (12-3-2, 9-1).

    Mustangs get first EBAL win

  • Monte Vista parlayed a safety and two Nikita Zamora touchdown passes for a 16-6 win over Livermore on Oct. 25, the Mustangs' first league win of the season. Marco Zamora had 12 receptions for 164 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown catch, which upped the lead to 16-0. Matt Rood carried 13 times for 60 yards. Livermore's Andrei Kasten had a 55-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Travis Adams. The Mustangs host De La Salle on Nov. 1.

  • Foothill at San Ramon Valley, football, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. -- In a battle of two-high-powered offenses, the Wolves will look to rebound from their first league loss.

  • Amador Valley at Granada, football, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. -- The Dons can move into a tie for third with a win over the Matadors.

  • Northern California championship, girls golf, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. -- A strong cast will compete in Ripon for spots in the state tournament.

  • Aileen Jeong, Dublin golf -- She shot a 72 for the lowest score at the NCS Division I Qualifier on Oct. 21 at Diablo Creek Golf Course in Concord, helping the Gaels finish second in the team standings.

  • Kyle Kearns, Foothill football -- Kearns passed for 280 yards as the Falcons bested Granada.

  • Kate Berry, San Ramon Valley volleyball -- Berry, a senior captain, had 42 assists as the Wolves remained unbeaten in the EBAL with a win over California on Oct. 24.

  • Garrett Furlong, Athenian soccer -- Furlong had two goals and an assist in a 6-0 win over Bentley in the BCL-East.
