Hornets claim WACC boys water polo title The Alameda High boys water polo team beat Encinal 12-9 in overtime to win the West Alameda County Conference Tournament. Fischer Davis scored a game-high six goals and Jacob Thompson added four goals. Encinal was paced in scoring by Seth Tonningsen with three goals. Alameda defeated St. Patrick-St. Vincent 17-3 in the first round on Oct. 31 and Berkeley 18-3 in the semifinals on Nov. 1. Berkeley edged Bishop O'Dowd 8-7 in the third place game on Nov. 2. Peter Johann had a team-high four goals in that match for Bishop O'Dowd.
Piedmont girls water polo wins WACC title The Piedmont High girls water polo team defeated Alameda 10-6 on Nov. 2 to win the championship match of the West Alameda County Conference Tournament. Sarah Mooney scored a game-high six goals for the Highlanders, who also received two goals apiece from Lucy Faust and Sarah Ching. Piedmont beat Hercules 22-2 in the first round on Oct. 31 and defeated Bishop O'Dowd 13-3 in the semifinals on Nov. 1. Samantha Mladjov scored two goals for the Dragons in that game and a team-high three goals in an 8-7 win over Encinal in the third-place game on Nov. 2. Kalia Bryant paced Encinal in scoring with three goals in the match.

St. Patrick-St. Vincent vs. El Cerrito at De Anza, football, Nov. 9, 7 p.m. -- The Gauchos can clinch an undefeated Tri-County Athletic League-Rock season with a victory.
Stars of the week Fischer Davis, Alameda boys water polo -- Davis scored a game-high six goals in the Hornets' 12-9 victory over Encinal in the WACC Tournament championship match on Nov. 2. Davis also had seven goals in an 18-3 victory over Berkeley in the semifinals on Nov. 1 and five goals in a 17-3 victory over St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Oct. 31. Isaiah Hunter, Encinal football -- Hunter produced both of the Jets' touchdowns in a 35-14 loss to San Leandro on Nov. 1. He scored on a 7-yard run in the first quarter and a 13-yard run in the second quarter. He finished with a team-high 46 yards rushing and 49 yards receiving. Bryanna Davis, Bishop O'Dowd girls volleyball -- Davis slammed 20 kills in a 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 win over Berkeley on Oct. 31 that clinched the WACC-Foothill title. Sarah Mooney, Piedmont girls water polo -- The sophomore scored a game-high six goals in the Highlanders' 10-6 win over Alameda in the WACC Tournament championship match on Nov. 2. She also produced six goals in a 13-3 semifinal victory over Bishop O'Dowd on Nov. 1, and 12 goals in a 22-2 victory over Hercules in the opening round on Oct. 31. Naomi Overstreet, Berkeley girls volleyball -- Overstreet produced seven kills and four blocks in a 25-23, 25-18, 25-17 loss to Bishop O'Dowd on Oct. 31. She also slammed 16 kills in a 25-20, 27-29, 25-17, 25-14 victory over Piedmont on Oct. 29. Adarius Pickett, El Cerrito football -- Pickett scored touchdowns in three different ways in the Gauchos' 43-7 victory over St. Mary's on Nov. 2. He reached the end zone first on a 47-yard reception in the first quarter, then produced a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns on a 2-yard run and a 38-yard interception return. He led El Cerrito in rushing with 72 yards in the win.
