Foothill's Chen earns EBAL crown

  • Foothill High junior Jessica Chen won the East Bay Athletic league girls tennis title on Nov. 8. After winning in three sets in the semifinals, Chen bested Monte Vista's Julia Tomczak 6-4, 7-6 in the championship match. Monte Vista's Jenna Bloom and Jaime Hirshberg won the EBAL doubles title.

    Falcons ride Langley Express to victory

  • Foothill got four touchdowns from junior Isaiah Langley in a 41-14 football win over Amador Valley on Nov. 8 to improve to 8-2 overall -- the Falcons' best regular-season mark since they were 10-0 in 2006 and finished second in the NCS 4A playoffs. Langley had scoring runs of 16, 18 and 41 yards, and caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kyle Kearns. Langley needed just seven carries to gain 91 yards. Foothill will host Freedom on Saturday to open the NCS Division I playoffs.

    Amador Valley girls golf team makes statement

  • The Amador Valley girls golf team earned the program's third trip to the state tournament in the past four years with a third-place finish at the NorCal tournament in Ripon on Nov. 4. Kimberly Liu led the Dons with a 10-over 83 and will become the second player ever in the section to participate in four state tourneys, advancing three times with her team and once as an individual. The state tourney is Nov. 20 in Carmel.

    Dougherty Valley's Torres wins title

  • Dougherty Valley High girls tennis player Rickimae Torres won a fourth consecutive Diablo Foothill Athletic League tennis championship with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Acalanes' Isabella von Ebbe at Saint Mary's College on Nov. 8. Dougherty Valley's Christina Soliman and Arianna Motavalli won the DFAL doubles title. The Wildcats entered the week with an 18-0 record as the No. 2 seed in the North Coast Section team tournament. Torres will compete in the NCS singles tournament Nov. 18-19 in Santa Rosa.

    Bayliss wins big race

  • San Ramon Valley's Christine Bayliss made a late kick to win the EBAL girls cross country title, and Amador Valley won the girls team title at Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area on Nov. 8. Bayliss' winning time was 17 minutes, 44.56 seconds over the 2.95-mile course. Granada's Megan McCandless was second in 17:52.14. The Dons were led by Kim Sannajust (ninth, 18:52.66) and Melodie Leroudier (10th, 19:19.54).

  • Amador Valley at Granada, football, Nov. 15, 7 p.m. -- The EBAL rivals will meet for the second time in a 14-day span to kick off the NCS Division I playoffs.

  • San Ramon Valley at San Leandro, football, Nov. 16, 7 p.m. -- The surging Wolves, seeded sixth in the NCS Division I playoffs, will travel to the No. 11 Pirates, champions of the West Alameda County Conference-Foothill Division.

  • Darrell Millinder, Dublin football -- The junior ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries in the Gaels' season-ending 50-24 loss against unbeaten Campolindo on Nov. 8.

  • Sam Tarasow, Dougherty Valley football -- The sophomore had an 88-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Umar Farooq in the Wildcats' 48-14 loss against Las Lomas on Nov. 8. The Wildcats will travel to California on Friday in the NCS Division I playoffs.

  • Rickimae Torres, Dougherty Valley girls tennis -- The senior completed an unbeaten four-year run in the DFAL tournament with a fourth league singles title.
