Giving Tree cheers up those in holiday need
The Pleasanton Police Officers' Charitable Foundation's annual gift program gets underway Friday.
Beginning Friday, visitors may stop by the Pleasanton police department offices, 4833 Bernal Ave., to pick a gift tag off the Giving Tree.
Each tag indicates a specific item a senior or family in need has requested for Christmas.
The recipients of this year's gifts were chosen from names supplied by Senior Support Program of the Tri-Valley and the Pleasanton Unified School District.
For more information, contact Betsy Jones at firstname.lastname@example.org or 925-931-5100.

Artists sought for new swim center's projects
The city is seeking artists to create public art projects for a new recreation and aquatics center -- as well as three local residents for a panel to help pick artists for the jobs.
Individual artists or teams are invited to apply for paid commissions to create public art projects for the Emerald Glen Park recreation and aquatic center, which is expected to open in late 2015.
Potential artists or art selection committee members may receive applications by e-mailing email@example.com or by calling 925-556-4500.
The deadline for artists to apply is 5 p.m. Dec. 6.
Meanwhile, the city has set 5 p.m. Dec. 2 as the deadline for Dublin residents to apply to serve on the art selection committee.
A description of the project can be downloaded from www.ci.dublin.ca.us/.
