Two shutouts by the Pleasanton Rage White girls U13 team at Dublin's Fallon Sports Field on Dec. 7-8 sealed a top spot at the NorCal State Cup Seeding Round.
In their first game, the Rage shutout the Argentina Fresno Soccer Club 4-0. Their first of four goals came in the first two minutes of the game, when a free kick by Gabriella Smith was headed into the net by Taylor Metz. Fresno responded and controlled possession for the rest of the half, but couldn't convert on any of their shots. In the second half, the Rage expanded the lead to 2-0 after Isabella Clark scored off an assist by Lucia Castaneda. Nine minutes later, Brooke Delaney used superb body control to shield a Fresno defender and find the net for an insurance score. Hunter Faria scored the final Rage goal, with a long range shot in the 77th minute.
In their final game of the weekend, the Rage took on the Atwater Competitive Nighthawks, and tallied another shutout victory, 2-0. Rage defender Julianna Pereira made several dramatic stops to preserve the shutout. Teammates Ariyana Walling, Sarah McKeever, and Monsen kept the highly physical Atwater offense at bay for a majority of the game. Lauren Londono and Jessica Stubbs took several shots at the Atwater goal, which were denied. After a scoreless first half of play, Rage coach Amanda Luxford and technical director Philippe Blin inspired the team, who returned to the field with renewed determination.
In a display of athleticism, Isabella Clark sprinted down the right flank and sent in a cross that was deflected back to her, which she quickly converted for the first score of the game. In a free kick opportunity six minutes later, Smith floated the ball into the net with a perfect arch, but the referee blew his whistle before the ball entered the goal. The second and final goal was scored when Smith lofted a corner kick to a well positioned Walling, who turned and blasted it into the net.
The Rage White will next play the eighth seeded Marin Breakwater in the NorCal State Cup quarterfinals on Dec. 16.
All-Star Teams Announced
US Youth Soccer announced the US Youth Soccer ODP All-Star teams for the 2013 US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls Thanksgiving Interregional, which recently took place Nov. 24-29 at Spanish River Athletic Park in Boca Raton, Fla. Of the nearly 300 players that participated in the event, four rosters were constituted based on outstanding performance — one for each of the 1996 through 1999 age groups.
The US Youth Soccer ODP Girls Thanksgiving Interregional featured players that were selected from US Youth Soccer State Association and regional level evaluations. Throughout the six-day event, players trained at practices and competed in matches in front of nearly 100 national staff and collegiate coaches for the opportunity to be selected to a higher level of play. Local standout Milan Moses from the Pleasanton Rage Soccer Club and Dublin High School was the only local soccer player that was selected for the team.
