Two teenagers who fled after someone confronted them as they were attempting to break into a vehicle also tried to steal another vehicle before they were arrested, police said.
The 18-year-old man and his companion, a minor, were arrested just before 1 p.m. Dec. 7 in the 1800 block of Third Street, where they were found in possession of burglary tools, police said. Both were also wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
The man also faces a charge of resisting or obstructing police because he allegedly provided an officer with a false name when he was initially detained.
THURSDAY, DEC. 5 ARSON -- Someone set fire to a baby stroller in the 2100 block of Lincoln Avenue, causing minor damage to a nearby vehicle. It was reported about 12:35 a.m. VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen about 6:05 a.m. in the 2200 block of Lincoln Avenue. Another vehicle reported stolen about 1:35 p.m. in the 900 block of Fernside Boulevard was later found abandoned unoccupied in Oakland, police said. BURGLARY -- Police arrested a juvenile on suspicion of entering a residence in the 1500 block of High Street via an unlocked window and stealing money. The arrest occurred at 5 p.m. PUBLIC INTOXICATION -- A man, 43, initially detained because he matched the description of a vehicle theft suspect was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication. The man, who also allegedly resisted police as he was being taken into custody, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Everett Street.
FRIDAY, DEC. 6 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen just after 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of Court Street. ROBBERY -- Two suspected shoplifters face multiple charges after they fought with security guards as they attempted to flee Nob Hill on Blanding Avenue, police said. The 36-year-old man ran and punched a guard as he attempted to climb into the driver's seat of his getaway vehicle, while the woman, 35, got back out of the vehicle and punched a second guard, police said. The man was also in possession of suspected heroin and cocaine and the woman was wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. The arrests occurred about 8:50 p.m. Among the charges the man and woman each face is robbery instead of petty theft because they used force or the threat of force while stealing the merchandise, police said. BURGLARY -- Police arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of burglary and violating his probation after he allegedly shoplifted items at Lucky on Marina Village Parkway. The man, who was arrested just after 10 p.m., was on probation for burglary and petty theft.
SATURDAY, DEC. 7 VEHICLE THEFT -- A vehicle was reported stolen at 8:30 a.m. in the 3400 block of Capella Lane. GRAND THEFT -- Someone stole a boat and trailer from the 1900 block of Clement Avenue. The theft was reported about 1:50 p.m. DRUNKEN DRIVING -- Police arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of drunken driving following a traffic stop about 7:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of Park Street, where he allegedly failed field sobriety tests. VANDALISM -- Two suspects vandalized two pumps at the 76 service station on Mecartney Road so that they would pump an unlimited amount of gasoline, then used the pumps to fuel up their vehicles, police said. One suspect also distracted an employee during the incident, which occurred about 8:40 p.m.
SUNDAY, DEC. 8 DRUNKEN DRIVING -- A woman, 37, who was found passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle that was in gear with the engine running was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, police said. The arrest occurred about 6:30 a.m. at High Street and Fernside Boulevard. FORGERY -- Police arrested two women, ages 24 and 35, after they allegedly used counterfeit money to purchase items at the Target store on Fifth Street. One of the women was also found carrying several of the suspicious notes when they were detained outside the business about 6:10 p.m. The arrests occurred a day after police received a report that someone had passed a counterfeit currency at the store.
