SAN LORENZO -- An expansion project will close the San Lorenzo Library on Dec. 31 for 18 months, officials announced this week.
After the year-and-a-half closure, the library building will reopen in summer 2015 with a new wing.
In the meantime, library services will be available at a temporary location, 16032 Hesperian Blvd., beginning in March 2014. The new phone number if 510-284-0640.
Before March, people can visit the Castro Valley Library, at 3600 Norbridge Ave., or find out when the Bookmobile is in the area by going to: www.aclibrary.org/branches/slz/.½
"The staff is saddened by the closing of the San Lorenzo Library on Dec. 31, because we know the great joy that this building has brought to individuals and generations of families over the last 45 years," said branch manager Anthony Dos Santos. "This closing also marks a new beginning as the library transforms itself into a 21st century library that can continue to grow in new directions along with our neighborhoods and communities."
The library will be presenting a series of programs over the holidays to say goodbye to the current building, including Roy the Magician and Ms. Sally Face painting, both on Dec. 28; balloon twisting show Balloon Star and Roaming Reptiles, both on Dec. 30; the Wakefield Quartet on Dec. 31; and a four-day book sale.
For more information on the programs, call 510-284-0642.
