Corrigan to talk about new book in Montclair

New York Times best-selling author and Piedmont resident Kelly Corrigan will discuss her new book "Glitter and Glue" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Montclair Presbyterian Church, 5701 Thornhill Drive, Oakland.

The event is free and open to the public, with parking available at nearby Thornhill elementary school.

Corrigan's new book is an examination of the mother-daughter relationship, "tough and funny, nostalgic and searching," according to author Elizabeth Gilbert of "Eat, Pray, Love" fame.

Montclair's Great Good Place for Books is co-sponsoring the event. Corrigan's book may be purchased on site following her talk.

Viva el Espanol to host movie night on Friday

Piedmont Language School and Viva el Espanol will host a movie night from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday.

"Despicable Me 2" and "Mi Villano Favorito" in Spanish will screen at Piedmont Community Church's Boy Scout classroom at 400 Highland Ave., Piedmont.

Scouts' annual Pinewood Derby slated for Feb. 8

The Girl Scouts annual Pinewood Derby is coming up from 3 to 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at Piedmont Community Church, 400 Highland Ave. in Piedmont.

The deadline to register is Jan. 26. Girl Scouts and their siblings can make race cars to win prizes in this fun event. Non-Girl Scouts are also welcome. To register and for car kits, contact Eliza Chin at elizachin_md@yahoo.com.

The Piedmont Cub/Tiger Scout Pinewood Derby will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church also on Feb. 8. Volunteers are needed for registration, judges, pit crew and other. For more information, call the council office at 547-4493.
