Street Smarts Storybook Poster Contest: Entries from the San Ramon Valley focused on the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bike, skateboard or scooter. Local author Dana Mentink wrote a fun story for elementary school-age children that teaches important traffic safety information. The children chose one to three pages to illustrate. The winning artists from San Ramon Valley schools are:

Constitutional Speech Contest: Anand Kannappan, a junior at Dougherty Valley High School, won the American Legion Mount Diablo Post 246, Danville Constitutional Speech competition against local students from Monte Vista, San Ramon and California High School, going on to win the District 9 and the American Legion Area Competition. Anand then represented Post 246 at the California State Constitutional Speech Contest and placed third.
