City's 'Bunny Blast' will be held April 5

Celebrate spring at the Piedmont Recreation Department's annual "Bunny Blast" to be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. April 5 at Piedmont Park, foot of Highland Avenue.

Children 2 to 7 years old are invited to hunt for eggs and other treasures and enjoy games and other activities. Cost is $5 per child. You may register online by visiting www.Piedmontportal.org.

Center holding the art exhibit Chroma Zones

The Piedmont Center for the Arts is hosting the Chroma Zones art exhibit open from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 801 Magnolia Ave., Piedmont.

Four accomplished artists will showcase their works: Henry Epstein, Carol Rienecker, Paci Hammond and Raul Jorcino. The diverse exhibit features vibrant landscapes, cityscapes, portraits and still life paintings in acrylics, oil and mixed media. Discounts offered for 'Other People's Money'

The newly formed Piedmont Oakland Repertory Theatre is offering discounted tickets for $15 to patrons to see its second play, "Other People's Money," running Thursdays through Sundays through April 12, with no performance next Thursday.

This could be the company's last performance if ticket sales don't pick up, said producer John McMullen. Its first production, "The Dining Room," was successful during the holidays, McMullen said.

The shows are taking place at its temporary home at Kehilla Synagogue, 1300 Grand Ave., where there is ample parking. The production features equity actors. Diversity panel to hold fundraiser at Yoshi's

Piedmont's Appreciating Diversity Committee will hold a fundraiser at 8 p.m. Friday at Yoshi's Oakland in Jack London Square.

Firefighter open house, emergency fair slated

The Piedmont Fire Department and the Public Safety Committee invite Piedmont citizens of all ages to attend the PFD Open House and Disaster Preparedness Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 5 at 120 Vista Ave. in Piedmont.

The PFD will close Vista Avenue to traffic between Highland and Bonita to make room for two bounce houses, free hot dogs and chips and the "Sparky" fire and earthquake education trailer. Children will be able to climb on a fire truck and peek inside an ambulance while adults practice using a fire extinguisher and learn about all the programs and services the Fire Department has to offer.

Firefighters will demonstrate their quick response when called for an emergency. The U.S. Geological Survey will showcase their exhibit on earthquake hazards, and PG&E will have exhibits on electrical and gas emergencies.

PBF celebrating 50th anniversary with party

The Piedmont Beautification Foundation is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a "Party in the Park" featuring a non-judged flower show and photography exhibit.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 at Piedmont Park at the foot of Highland Avenue. The family fun day features park tours, hot dog lunch, games for children and more.
