This major fundraiser for FAAS is the biggest pet celebration in Alameda with more than 200 people and 150 canines attending. There's fun for everyone, including, contests, a doggy fashion show, refreshments and a scenic 1-mile walk along the bay. Preregistration for Wiggle Waggle Walk is $25 per dog -- $30 at the event. The person raising the most money in pledges will win a three-night stay at a beautiful Tahoe home!

BLACK CAT FEVER: During the month of April, black cats and kittens at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter can be adopted for only $21 on Fridays. Celebrate Black Cat Fridays with FAAS and meet some of our adorable black cats. Here are just a few of the black cats and kittens at the shelter.

SWEET PEA is an affectionate 7-month-old female that is calm and curious. MAX is quite the guy! He's about 6 years old with a handsome face and a super personality. All pets adopted at FAAS have been health- and behavior-screened, vaccinated, microchipped, spayed or neutered and are well socialized.

Black cats are the most overlooked felines in any shelter and have the lowest adoption rate at all shelters nationwide. That's sad because black cats and kittens tend to be the most intelligent, playful, and friendly of all domestic felines. And, they are always beautiful and elegant because of their wonderful all-black coats!

Pet Of The Week: COCOA, a 2-year-old female Chihuahua mix, is cute as a button, sweet and has learned to walk nicely on a leash. She'd be a good choice for a first-time dog owner.

Dog Alley: There are 12 available dogs at the shelter. BUCA is a cute gold Beagle Dachshund mix that's about 5 years old, mellow and likes to have his back scratched. BUTTERS is a magnificent gray pit bull that's about 3 years old and loves the water and toys.

Cat Lair: There are 15 available cats at the shelter. MAMA is a pretty 2-year old tortoiseshell cat. She is a super-sweet and affectionate gal. BUNKER is a handsome 4-year-old brown tabby that enjoys being with people and getting lots of head pats.

RABBIT ROW: MARTIN is a neutered agouti, and SPECKLES is a neutered English spot. SMUDGE is a handsome pink-eyed Himalayan. DULCE is a neutered black New Zealander, and CUBBY is a handsome brown rabbit.
