Dean's list: Scripps College, Claremont, has announced that Elise Berendt made the dean's list for fall 2013 as well as won the McSpadden Sands Merit Award in Writing, which recognizes excellence in writing among first-year students. She is the daughter of Corinne and Eric Berendt, of Pleasanton, and a 2013 graduate of Amador Valley High School.

Rachel Yarnold, a senior majoring in psychology at the University of Rochester, Rochester, N.Y., has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2013 semester. She is the daughter of Adrienne and David Yarnold, of Alamo.

Science Teacher Honored: The Pleasanton Unified School District has announced that Heather Pereira, an Amador Valley High School chemistry teacher, is the Alameda County science teacher of the year. She was given this honor at the 2014 Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair recently held at the county fairgrounds.

Classified Employees Honored: Pleasanton Unified School District trustees celebrated their classified employees and named Ruth Highstreet, secretary at Donlon Elementary School, their Classified Employee of the Year. Ruth's name has been submitted to the Alameda County Office of Education for the county's Classified Employee of the Year program.

Newest Danville Eagle: Justin Bryan Fong, son of Liza and Bryan Fong, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which will be presented at the Hope Center in Pleasant Hill. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 277 under the leadership of Scoutmaster Don Hinton. For his Eagle project, Justin collected medical supplies and packaged them into first aid kits for families in underdeveloped countries. He is a junior at The College Preparatory School in Oakland.
