Homer lifts SRV past Amador Valley

  • San Ramon Valley High sophomore Nick Moroney jolted host Amador Valley with a home run to left field off Tyler Staniford in the top of the eighth inning, spurring a three-run rally and a 4-1 Wolves win in East Bay Athletic League action April 18. The dramatic win, along with California's 7-5 victory over Foothill, has produced a three-way tie atop the EBAL among San Ramon Valley, California and De La Salle, each with 6-2 records entering this week. Amador Valley is 5-3. The tight game featured stellar pitching by Staniford, who hung a changeup with two strikes to Moroney after six straight scoreless innings. Wolves' left-handed reliever Conor Neumann limited the Dons to one hit over the final four innings and got the win. San Ramon Valley starter Conner Loar, like Staniford, settled down after allowing three hits in the first inning. He allowed no hits in the third or the fourth.
