Fundraiser for Alameda High School Grad Night
The Alameda High School class of 2014 Grad Night Committee will host a Grad Night wine tasting fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. May 4 at Wine and Waffles, 1505 Park St.
Cost of the event will be $10 for two glasses. It will feature wines from R & B Cellars and other selections from Wine & Waffles.
There also will be a raffle drawing, including for cash prizes of $250 and $100, four front-row seats to the June 13 Alameda High graduation, and gift certificates.
Grad Night is an all-night party for graduating seniors that will feature music, dancing, food, and other activities. The theme is kept secret from seniors until they arrive.
Doors will open at 9:30 p.m. on graduation night June 13 and the party will end at 5 a.m. the next day.
Ken and Vickie Monize, owners of Wine & Waffles, are helping sponsor the upcoming fundraiser.
Other businesses that are supporting Grad Night are Cafe Q, Sidestreet Pho, Spice I Am, Tomatina and Doggy-Style Hot Dogs.
Alain Pinel Realtors to open at South Shore
Alain Pinel Realtors, the largest Bay Area-based residential firm, has signed a five-year lease for a 1,943-square-foot office at Alameda South Shore Center.
The new office will open in late spring in suite 735 across from Daiso.
"With many of our associates already living and working in the city of Alameda, it seemed the obvious next step, to bring our technology and marketing expertise to a top quality location in Alameda, one of the most desirable communities in the East Bay," said Phil Weingrow, vice president office manager at Alain Pinel Realtors.
Jamestown, the owner of Alameda South Shore Center, announced Monday that Alain Pinel had signed the lease.
AMP issues call for art to decorate power boxes
Alameda Municipal Power has announced the launch of Power Box Art, a pilot project coordinated by the utility, the Park Street Business Association, and Rhythmix Cultural Works aimed at beautifying transformer boxes in the Park Street business area.
Artists who live or work in Alameda are invited to submit art that reflects the way the community can reduce its carbon footprint through renewable power sources, cleaner transportation, recycling and reuse, shopping "Alameda" local, supporting local farmers, and water and energy conservation.
A panel of judges will chose 10 designs and the art work will be transferred to a vinyl adhesive film and professionally applied to the exterior of transformer boxes.
Selected artists (including one K-12 student) will receive a $500 honorarium and will be featured in a Power Box Art show at Rhythmix-K Gallery.
Each transformer has been sponsored by a local business. The sponsors are: Alameda Collision Repair; Alameda Island Brewing Company; Alameda Natural Grocery; Berg Injury Lawyers; The Marketplace; Mason Management; Ole's Waffle Shop; Rhythmix Cultural Works; Rich and Rose Krinks (Broker and Associate Realtor, Harbor Bay Realty); and Tucker's Ice Cream.

Deadline for submissions will be at 5 p.m. June 16 and the winning designs will be announced July 2. The transformers will be unveiled Sept. 12 on an "art walk" beginning at Rhythmix.
