Foothill High graduate Rachel Reichenbach placed second in the women's high jump last weekend at the USA Track & Field Junior Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
The Stanford-bound Reichenbach cleared 5 feet, 83/4 inches on her second attempt on July 5. Ashlee Moore of Elite Athletics-Arizona negotiated the same height on her third attempt for third place. Bailey Weiland, a Georgia Tech-bound athlete competing unattached, won with a leap of 5-101/2.
Dublin High's Mecca McGlaston, who won the state championship in the girls 100 intermediate hurdles in June, was fifth in the women's 100 hurdles on July 6 with a time of 13.63.
De La Salle graduate Marquis Morris, who is headed to USC, placed sixth in the men's 110-meter high hurdles on July 6 with a time of 13.74. He was second in the event at this year's CIF track and field championships in June with a time of 13.68. In the preliminaries on July 5, Morris produced a time of 13.73 (wind-aided).
The East Bay will be well represented at the U.S. Junior Amateur boys and girls golf championships later this month.
Dublin High's Jacob Solomon and De La Salle's Josh McCarthy, a Danville resdent, recently qualified for the boys tournament. Alameda's Melissa Yao, Concord's Yealimi Noh and Danville's Ty Akabane are headed to the girls event.
Solomon qualified with a score of 148 at Milburn Golf and Country Club in Overland Park, Kan. while McCarthy did it closer to home, shooting a 136 at Stanford Golf Course on June 30.
Yao fired a round of 72 at Peach Tree Golf and Country Club in Marysville on June 30 to qualify for the girls tournament. She'll be joined by Noh and Akabane, who qualified ont the same date at Stockton Golf and Country Club.
The boys junior amateur tournament is at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Tex. from July 21-26. The girls Junior Amateur will be played on the same dates at Forest Highlands Golf Club in Flagstaff, Ariz.
Granada graduate Casey Soltis was named first-team all-state as an outfielder by Cal-Hi Sports. Soltis, a fifth round draft choice of the Miami Marlins, hit .353 with four home runs, 16 RBIs and 27 runs scored for the Matadors this season. Soltis also was a first team All-East Bay choice by the Contra Costa Times.
Pitcher Conor Neumann of San Ramon Valley was named third-team all-state. Named to the all-state first-team for underclassmen was infielder Nick Poirier of San Ramon Valley. Outfielder Dominic Foscalina of Livermore was an all-state second team selection for underclassmen.
The Pacific Rim 17-and-under boys volleyball team captured the USA Volleyball Junior National Championship for its age group in Houston, Texas on July 5. Pacific Rim, based in Pleasant Hill and coached by Roger Worsley, earned the title with a 25-20, 25-20 sweep of Balboa Bay 17Asics-Newport Beach in the championship match.
Connor Keowen of California High is a backup setter and defensive specialist on the elite squad.
