OAKLAND -- One person is dead after their car collided with a big rig on southbound Interstate 880 near the 10th Avenue exit in Oakland.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. when an older model Honda collided with a commercial truck, becoming partially stuck under the larger vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Passers-by attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle who became trapped in their car. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No information was released about the driver's age, gender or city of residence.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. A traffic alert was issued at 9:22 p.m., closing the two right lanes of the roadway.
