BERKELEY -- Tamarick Pierce rushed for four touchdowns, including a 42-yard scoring run on his first touch of the afternoon, to help lead the host St. Mary's High football team to a 39-6 win over Moreau Catholic on Saturday.

Pierce scored twice in the first half and twice in the second, helping the Panthers put up 39 unanswered points.

Moreau Catholic took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, as Gustavo Borrayo returned a St. Mary's fumble 92 yards for a touchdown. But the Mariners' offense mostly sputtered without star running back Jason Hinton, managing just 76 total yards. Hinton, who had 2,051 rushing yards last season, is still recovering from offseason knee surgery and isn't expected back until midway through the season.

The Panthers racked up 484 yards of total offense as Stevie Harvey ran for 136 yards and Erik Philip and Marquis Mahone Chambers combined for 183 yards receiving.

Panthers sophomore quarterback Ryan Jenkins threw three interceptions but also made several huge plays, including leading a 90-yard scoring drive, capped by his 7-yard touchdown run, right before the first half to give his team a 19-7 lead.
