OAKLAND — A 19-year-old man was shot to death Sunday night while visiting the East Oakland neighborhood where he used to live, police said.
Police said Anthony L. Davis was shot about 9:48 p.m. Sunday in the 3400 block of 64th Avenue Place a residential cul-de-sac off MacArthur Boulevard that runs between the Evergreen Cemetery and the former Burbank Elementary School.
He was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds.
Oakland police homicide Sgt. John Parkinson said Monday that Davis, an Oakland resident, used to live on the block and had come back to visit friends there.
He said Davis was shot as he was walking back from a store.
"Someone shot him and he fell," Parkinson said, adding police don't know if an argument preceded the shooting.
He said police don't yet know the motive for the shooting.
Parkinson said a relative of Davis' told police the 19-year-old was the father of a 1-year-old daughter and was working as a maintenance man getting foreclosed properties ready for resale.
Parkinson said it is too early to say if Davis' killing is related to another fatal shooting Feb. 2 in the 3300 block of 64th Avenue Place. That homicide claimed the life of Terrance Brown, 40, who had just moved into an apartment there a month earlier.
Police have not made any arrests in that case and are still trying to establish a motive.
Sunday's killing was Oakland's 82nd homicide of the year.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in each case for information leading to the arrest of the killers.
Anyone with information can call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572 or 777-3211.
