OAKLAND -- Councilmember Jean Quan was the victim of a purse snatching Saturday night in the parking lot of a Dimond district supermarket, police confirmed.
She was not hurt in the incident. Her purse, minus valuables, was found a short time later, police said.
The incident happened about 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Safeway, 3550 Fruitvale Ave.
It was not immediately known whether Quan was about to go inside the store or had just left it.
No arrests have been made.
It was the second time in just a few weeks that an Oakland councilmember has been a victim of a crime.
At least one burglar broke into Councilmember Ignacio De La Fuente's Fruitvale district home early this month, taking his wife's computer and some other items, De La Fuente and police said today.
Police said the burglary happened sometime between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with entry being made through a window. It was discovered by the councilmember's wife upon her return home.
A messy search of the premises was done, and De La Fuente (Glenview-Fruitvale) said they later determined his wife's computer and other items were taken. He said it was the second time in a year his house has been burglarized, but he does not think he is being targeted because of his position.
