Fairfax police arrested a man early Sunday morning on suspicion of vandalizing several cars in a residential neighborhood -- and attacking the man who tried to stop him.
Police say 23-year-old Andrew Thornton of Fairfax was reportedly smashing the mirrors of parked cars in the area of Blackberry Lane and Forrest Avenue at around 1:10 a.m. Sunday when a 56-year-old resident tried to stop him.
"Mr. Thornton, who was apparently intoxicated, attacked the 56-year-old man. He bit the victim's ear, causing a serious injury," said Sgt. Stuart Baker of the Fairfax Police Department.
Thornton was booked Sunday morning into Marin County Jail on charges of assault, vandalism in excess of $5,000, mayhem and drunk and disorderly conduct. Bail has been set at $50,000.
