RICHMOND -- Fire crews from Richmond and in-house staff teamed to quench an equipment flare-up at the Chevron oil refinery Monday night.

The fire started about 6 p.m. on a piece of equipment being restarted after a shutdown for maintenance and repairs, Richmond Battalion Chief Merlin Turner said.

The blaze did not trigger a regional alert from Contra Costa County, nor result in any measurable emissions beyond the refinery gates, Turner said.

Firefighters treated one Chevron worker at the scene for a minor injury, he added.
