SAN LEANDRO -- A woman was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in San Leandro on Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The Capitol Corridor train, on its way from San Jose to Emeryville, struck the woman at about 3:30 p.m. near Nabor Street and Central Avenue, Amtrak and Union Pacific representatives said.
Neither spokesman would identify the woman Saturday. Both said an investigation is under way.
The Amtrak spokesman said none of the train's crew members or 17 passengers were hurt. Passengers were diverted to BART, while the train remained at the scene for a few hours.
