OAKLAND -- The Planning Commission on Wednesday will take up a proposal to establish an off-leash dog park on the northeast corner of Lakeview Park at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Lakeshore Avenue.

The nearly half-acre park has been the subject of intense debate, with advocates saying that it serves a vital need and opponents saying that it would remove pivotal open space at the 3.66-acre park.

City staffers are recommending the Planning Commission approve the proposal. The commission's ruling can be appealed to the City Council.
