UNION CITY -- A newlywed couple was robbed of all of their wedding possessions the morning after they tied the knot, police said.
At about 3 a.m. Sunday, the young couple from Hayward parked their rental car in the parking garage at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 32083 Alvarado Niles Road, said Union City Police Cmdr. Ben Horner.
The groom went out to the car the next day and found that someone had smashed a rear window and stolen their personal belongings, Horner said.
According to Horner, the couple's wedding gifts, suitcases, camera, and both the tuxedo and the wedding dress were stolen from the car.
"My theory is that the thief was attracted to the vehicle because of the 'Just Married' lettering written on both sides of the car. This is an unfortunate crime of opportunity, and I hope that the bride and groom will be able to enjoy the beginning of their marriage together," Horner said.
Union City police are looking for surveillance footage from surrounding businesses, as there were no known witnesses, Horner said. Police are asking for anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity to contact the Union City Police Department.
