HAYWARD -- Two Hayward school programs are competing for $20,000 in an online video contest and are asking for the public's help by voting for them.
The Hayward Unified School District Child Development Program is asking for assistance because of budget cuts. Eldridge Elementary School is seeking funding for its drama club.
The fifth annual Lots2Give will be awarding a $20,000 grand prize to the program whose video gets the most online votes. In addition, there are two $10,000 first-place prizes, four $5,000 second-place awards and 30 $2,000 third-place ones.
Through July 11, people can vote for their favorite video up to three times a day at www.biglots.com/lots2give.
The contest is sponsored by Big Lots.
Customers also can help their favorite school by donating $1 or $5 at participating Big Lots stores through July 8.
