Youngsters are invited to bring their rods and reels to the 9th Annual Kids Fishing Derby next month sponsored by the city of Oakley.
The catch-and-release event will be held Aug. 11, 9-11 a.m. at the Antioch/Oakley Regional Shoreline on the north end of Bridgehead Road in Antioch.
The competition is free and open to youth up to 15 years old. Prizes will be awarded in each age category to those who catch the biggest, smallest and most fish.
Participants can preregister at either Oakley City Hall, 3231 Main St., or Hook, Line & Sinker, 3100 Main St. They also can register from 8 to 9 a.m. on the day of the derby.
A few loaner fishing poles will be available for those who don't have their own. Free bait is provided. A corn dog lunch will be served at no cost following the derby.
