BALTIMORE — The A's are in the works to acquire catcher George Kottaras from the Milwaukee Brewers, though indications are that a trade won't be completed for a day or two.

The teams are believed to be hashing out who the A's might send to Milwaukee in return.

Kottaras hit .209 with three homers and 12 RBIs for the Brewers in 58 games before being designated for assignment Thursday.

It's highly unlikely the A's are acquiring him as a regular option behind the plate, but his addition would provide depth and give the A's flexibility in case they had a trade brewing that involves Kurt Suzuki, whose name has been in trade rumors.

Sending Derek Norris to the minors is another option. Norris recently went through a 0 for 30 slump, but he's looked better recently, going 5 for 14 over his past four games.
