ALAMO -- An Alamo man involved in an altercation with a next-door neighbor that resulted in the death of a woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder.
Deputies took Michael Littman, 59, into custody without incident at his home in the 3000 block of Stonegate Drive around 3:30 p.m., according to Contra Costa Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee.
The arrest came three days after police were called to the same address after reports of a physical fight between Littman and his neighbor, 55-year-old Doris Penico. Police said Littman knocked Penico down during the fight, causing Penico to hit her head on the cement.
Penico died of her injuries Tuesday at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
The neighboring families are involved in a long-standing civil dispute regarding property, Lee said.
Penico also faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and felony battery, Lee said. He remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility with bail set at $1 million.
