CONCORD -- Now that classes have been under way for three weeks at Clayton Valley Charter High School, the governing board is ready to party.

The community is invited to a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate the school's conversion and independence from a district-run campus to a charter. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the school's outdoor quad amphitheater at 1101 Alberta Way in Concord. Cake and punch will be served.

"The idea for a charter conversion began with a discussion at a CVHS Staff Senate meeting in October 2010," according to a news release. "Since that meeting, a team of educators, students, parents, city officials, and the community have worked tirelessly to see Clayton Valley Charter become a reality."
