HAYWARD -- The Hayward Historical Society is hosting "A Day at the Races" for children on Saturday at historic McConaghy House.
"We will have a real pony outside McConaghy House. Kids will get to ride it outside the house and through the gardens," said Johanna Fassbender, society education director. She added while the festivities are from 10 a.m. to 4 a.m., the pony would only be there from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children must wear closed-toe shoes to ride the pony.
The house's carriage house will be open, and children will be able to explore its livery tools. The society plans some games, including pin the tail on the pony and horseshoes, along with a craft activity. Archie's Playroom, which features Victorian games, will be open.
Admission is $2 children, $3 adults and free for society members. McConaghy House is located at 18701 Hesperian Blvd., next to Kennedy Park.
